As an organization, MEEA hosts both professional development and networking opportunities across the state. These opportunities range from MEEA Meetups, where we invite environmental educators to come together in hub cities to network, share ideas, and help each other to be the best educators they can be, to specific trainings that aim to prepare educators to tackle obstacles.

MEEA’s eeCredential Environmental Education Courses Program

Montana Environmental Education Association (MEEA)’s eeCredential Online Environmental Education Courses Program offers Environmental education courses designed to provide participants with a NAAEE Guidelines for Excellence-based teaching and learning credential in relevant environmental education topics.

MEEA, in conjunction with regional NAAEE affiliates: Colorado Assoc. of Environmental Education (CAEE), Utah Society for Environmental Education (USEE), and the Wyoming Alliance for Environmental Education (WYAEE), is working to develop, deliver, and sustain comprehensive environmental education professional development for educators across EPA-designated Region 8.  The regional effort is funded by a collaboratively-awarded grant from EPA.

Our goal in developing and delivering a rigorous, effective, and accessible eeCredential program is preparing formal and nonformal educators to address topics such as climate change and environmental justice with their learners. The courses provide the skills and knowledge educators need to deliver effective, high-quality environmental education that helps learners weigh various sides of environmental issues and develop critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Making these courses available online, in a self-paced format, enables MEEA to create an environmental education professional development system that can be accessible to all and grow over time. The online learning platform is Moodle. 

MEEA opened their first eeCredential course – ‘Teaching and Learning Outdoors’, in December 2023. Each eeCourse lasts 6-8 weeks, with specific module due dates. The next course ‘Environmental Justice’ is open for enrollment as of January 4th. The ‘Environmental Justice’ course runs from January 29-March 11 (6 weeks). 

With support from the EPA, the ‘Environmental Justice’ eeCourse will be available for FREE, normally valued at $75-$150.  Participants will receive a certificate of completion.  Participants interested in continuing their learning through eeCourses can use this course to work towards an eeCredential (series of 3-4 eeCourses).
